Your new primetime tv show...

Let's say you had the power to get your show on the air in that coveted Thursday evening line-up. Your show that involves disability somehow. What would your show be about? Would it revolve around disability? Would the main character(s) be disabled? Would the disabilities be explained? Would they be a show focus? Would actual disabled actors play people with disabilities on the show? Would you use non-disabled? Would it be a drama, mystery, action, horror, suspense, comedy or reality show? Hour or 1/2 hour?? Talked to me, people.

I vote for a comedy with a darker streak...

there are many actors with impairment out there, and where possible, I'd want impaired actors to play the roles....

Some able parts, some that don't understand disability at all, some clueless but harmless and some allies..

I'd want some stereotype breaking stories...

Athletes with impairment, married impaired folks, the young woman in the wheelchair with the six figure salary, artists,

*No* patient overcomer BS...

I'd have a show where everyone was in wheelchairs except one person who was able bodied.

I'd then out bariers in to stop him getting into restaurants, pubs, cinema's and public transport just to see how they reacted!

I'd focus on one disabled person's experience of prejudice in everyday life. A drama where there's no tokenism, no stereotyping, where non-disabled people are given a real sock-it-to-them wakeup call.

or you can go to you tube and watch the attitude tv channel.

There are some fantastic stories here about and for people with disabilities. These stories promote ability.
